Tono Pizzeria + Cheesesteaks, a rapidly-expanding Twin Cities chain, is coming to the North Loop this summer.

Tono is opening its 11th location in a 3,000-square-foot space at 250 N. Third Ave., previously known as the Traffic Zone building, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

St. Louis Park-based Crowe Cos. recently paid $6.5 million for 250 N. Third Ave., a historic three-story building near the I-394 ramp, and rebranded it as the Wheelhouse. The firm is spending an additional $25 million on a renovation to help bring in new tenants.

Tono will take over the former Jeromeo space on the southern end of the building. A sports bar is in the works for the spot on the other side of the building where Bev’s Wine Bar operated for almost 30 years. Both will have a patio.

Shaz Khan and Antonio Gambino launched Tono in 2019. Gambino’s Philadelphian-Italian family started Andrea Pizza, a skyway staple with three downtown outposts.

Last year, Tono opened a new location in Southwest Minneapolis, in the long-vacant Michelangelo's Masterpizza space. There’s also a St. Paul location, but the rest are in the suburbs.
