St. David’s Center for Child and Family Development has officially purchased the former YWCA Minneapolis building on Nicollet Mall, where the Minnetonka-based nonprofit is expanding its mental health and autism services for children.
St. David’s paid $4 million in cash for the property at 1130 Nicollet Mall in mid-July, according to Hennepin County property records, which indicate that the buyer paid the appraisal. Since YWCA Minneapolis is a tax-exempt organization, Hennepin County didn’t annually assess the 120,000-square-foot building’s market value for tax purposes.
St. David’s CEO Julie Sjordal told the Star Tribune earlier this year when the pending sale was announced that the organization planned to spend $9 million on a renovation. It’s unclear whether that figure factors in the building acquisition.
YWCA Minneapolis received two other offers for the Nicollet Mall building and chose St. David’s because St. David’s agreed to lease part of the building back to the YWCA so the YWCA could continue operating its early childhood center on site.
YWCA Minneapolis closed its downtown and Uptown facilities and put both properties on the market last November.
Tending the Soil was in line to buy the Uptown property at 2808 Hennepin Ave. for $4.25 million, but no updates have been shared on its plans for a workforce development and job training hub there since early spring.
