Four neighboring vintage stores impacted by Hennepin Avenue road construction are teaming up on a block party next month.
Moth Oddities, Olio Vintage, The Golden Pearl Vintage, and Twelve Vultures are hosting the inaugural Northeast Vintage Block Party on Sept. 7 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Fifth Street NE and Hennepin Avenue in the Nicollet Island-East Bank neighborhood.
"The Northeast Vintage Block is a special little corner in the Twin Cities," Moth Oddities co-owner Yana Pietras said in an Aug. 15 announcement. "Between our four vintage shops, we have something for everyone. We're a one-stop-shop for vintage clothing and accessories for all genders, sizes, ages, and occasions, plus jewelry, records, art, decor, glassware, rare oddities, fun knick-knacks and more. It's a treasure hunt every time you visit, and each store specializes in something a little different than the next. Our common thread is a love for community and sustainability. That's what we're celebrating at the block party on September 7."
On top of economic uncertainty, road construction is hurting many small businesses across Minneapolis, some of which have been forced to close, including Uptown boutique Les Sól at the end of June.
"It's fair to say that our shops have been affected by these factors as well," Pietras said. "The Northeast Vintage Block Party is an opportunity to uplift our small business community, with support from our neighbors and friends."
During the block party, Gardens of Salonica will offer food and drinks, DJ Jake Ryan will provide tunes, and Matthew D'Ascenzo will do hand-drawn portraits.
