Renderings have been unveiled for a six-story parking ramp proposed on the Hennepin County Medical Center campus in downtown Minneapolis.

The 1,046-space parking ramp is the first phase of Hennepin Healthcare’s plans to rearrange HCMC's footprint in the Elliot Park neighborhood, which Downtown Voices initially reported in early July.

The proposed parking ramp would replace an existing 1,400-space parking ramp across the street. Once the new ramp is complete, the old ramp would be demolished for a 500-bed hospital tower.

Hennepin Health plans to build a skyway connecting the new parking ramp to the Hennepin Healthcare Clinic and Specialty Center building. The healthcare system also wants to incorporate 9,000 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor along Chicago Avenue.

Abdulrahman Wako, executive director of the Elliot Park’s neighborhood association, wrote a letter to the City in support of the ramp’s conceptual design.

A street vacation is required given the site’s location at 715 S. Ninth St., 908-920 Centennial Place, and 900 Chicago Ave., currently occupied by surface lots.

The Planning Commission Committee of the Whole is scheduled to discuss the project during its Thursday meeting.
