The Guthrie Theater’s newly announced 2025-2026 season includes the world premiere of a “play through music” on the ninth-floor stage, reopening for the first time since the venue’s coronavirus shutdown.

George Abud’s “The Ruins” will debut in the Guthrie’s Dowling Studio early in the season. According to Playbill, “the work sees two young people entering a single room with a stringed instrument, sharing their rage and ecstasy over eight movements as they explore how music can express the language that words fail to convey.”

Guthrie’s upcoming season also features a new adaptation of Louisa May Alcott’s “Little Women,” a revival of William Shakespeare’s “Macbeth,” and the 2024 Pulitzer Prize-winning play “Primary Trust.”

Here’s the full 2025-2026 season lineup:

"The Guthrie was founded on the belief that theater is essential to building connections with one another and the world, and our 2025–2026 Season of enduring classics and electrifying new work is a beautiful reflection of that mission," Joseph Haj, the Guthrie’s artistic director, said in a statement.

Eight productions will be available as part of the 2025–2026 season subscription series: “A Doll’s House,” “Macbeth,” “Little Women,” and “Private Lives,” all on the Wurtele Thrust Stage; as well as “Primary Trust,” “Somewhere,” “Sleuth,” and “Come From Away,” all on the McGuire Proscenium Stage.
