Fireworks will return to downtown Minneapolis’ riverfront this Fourth of July for the first time in five years.
The city’s annual Red, White and Boom celebration will take place on July 4 on the west side of the river at Water Works and the Stone Arch Bridge parking lot, the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board announced on Friday.
Red, White and Boom will start at 6 p.m. with live music and food trucks, and fireworks will go off at 10 p.m.
Unfortunately, the entire Stone Arch Bridge will be closed for this year’s Red, White and Boom, according to the announcement. The eastern half of the bridge closest to St. Anthony Main will be closed for repairs from mid-April until November.
Last held in 2019, Red, White and Boom was canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic, and then shifted to smaller events across the city in 2021 and 2022. The board opted for a laser light show at Boom Island Park instead of the traditional fireworks show in 2023.
“People love Fourth of July fireworks on the Downtown Minneapolis riverfront. We heard that from communities we serve, partners we work with, and our own staff, so we’re excited to bring back this beloved tradition,” MPRB Superintendent Al Bangoura said in a statement.
