Former NBA player Kris Humphries and a few of his family members are bringing Dave’s Hot Chicken to the North Loop.
The Humphries family plans to bring the Los Angeles-based chain to The Duffey at 528 N. Washington Ave. in early 2025, according to a Thursday announcement.
Kris Humphries signed on as a Dave’s Hot Chicken franchisee, along with his parents William and Debra and cousin Alex, in 2022. At the time, the family identified the North Loop as a desired area for one of the 10 Dave’s Hot Chicken locations that they initially planned to open. They now expect to open 18 total across the state, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
“The mix of historic preservation and modern innovation in the North Loop creates a unique atmosphere that we believe is ideal for Dave’s Hot Chicken,” Alex Humphries said in a statement. “Coupled with its diverse demographics and proximity to downtown Minneapolis, the North Loop provides a strong trade area that attracts both residents and visitors. We look forward to contributing to this community.”
The Humphries launched Minnesota’s first Dave’s Hot Chicken location in Minnetonka across from Ridgedale Center last June. They’ve since added others in St. Paul and Apple Valley, and they’re working on new locations in Coon Rapids, St. Cloud, and Rochester.
Kris Humphries and his family have owned Crisp & Green and Five Guys franchises in Minnesota as well.
Though he played professional basketball for a dozen years, Kris Humphries is arguably better known for being married to Kim Kardashian for just 72 days in 2011. He was born and raised in the Twin Cities, where he still lives.
Dave’s Hot Chicken will join Backstory Coffee, Puralima Cantina, and the incoming Barcelona Wine Bar in The Duffey.
