A new brewery called Brühaven Craft Co. is officially pouring beer in the former Lakes & Legends taproom.
Brühaven is now open at 1368 La Salle Ave. in Loring Park, on the ground floor of LPM Apartments, and this week its hours are Thursday from 4-10 p.m., Friday from 2:30-10 p.m., and Saturday from 3-10 p.m., according to the brewery’s latest post on Instagram.
Brühaven plans to keep two of Lakes & Legends' flagship beers on tap, St. Gail Raspberry Honey Ale and Minnesota Cream Ale, and serve coffee alongside pastries and pre-packaged food in the mornings, the Star Tribune reported in April.
Brühaven doesn’t accept cash or tips and instead adds an 18% service fee to all food and drink purchases. But it does welcome well-behaved dogs, like its predecessor, which was the first brewery in Minnesota to legally allow dogs in its taproom in 2017.
Lakes & Legends closed at the end of 2023 after eight years. Its founders, Ethan Applen and Derrick Taylor, then sold the business to Glenn Oslin and Alex Doering, the duo behind Brühaven.
Doering is the former head brewer at The Freehouse in the North Loop. In addition to beer, he will produce hard seltzer, THC beverages, mushroom-based functional drinks, and other non-alcoholic drinks so there are options for everyone, according to the Star Tribune.
Brühaven will preserve Lakes & Legends' role as a neighborhood gathering space, Applen told the Star Tribune. Hopefully that translates to dog adoption events and nonprofit fundraisers, which Lakes & Legends often hosted.
Minneapolis Craft Market, one of Lakes & Legends’ first and longest-lasting community partners, plans to return to the taproom now occupied by Brühaven on weekends in November and December for its annual holiday market.
Brühaven is the second brewery to open in downtown Minneapolis this year. Brew Lab 101 Beer Co. quietly started serving beer in the former Clockwerks Brewing space on the edge of the North Loop in February.
